Bright
light, DWB...
(Note:
most Sony Mini-DV camcorders produce the best color balance
in daylight when DWB
is selected - the PC100 is a possible exception.)
VX2000 (PD150, DSR250) |
Motion-artifacting is minimal, shadows are "open",
light tones hold detail well, familiar colors look natural, neutrals are neutral in color, spurious color tints are absent; fine detail is present, vertical smearing of bright spots is visible. |
Additional comparison frame-grabs for the VX2000 and TRV900 are here. I appear to have made a poor selection for the VX2000 sample frame above (the right edge and much of the rest of the image is softer than it is for the TRV900 in the frame below). |
TRV900 |
Motion-artifacting is minimal (but more obvious than with
the VX2000), shadows are darker, light tones are lighter (but still hold good color and detail), familiar colors look natural and neutrals are fairly neutral (but a slight red-blue bias is visible), fine detail is present (accentuated by the higher contrast compared with the VX2000). |
TRV30 (TRV50, PC115, PC120) |
Motion-artifacting is very obvious and annoying, contrast is
higher (the lightest tones are losing color and detail), familiar colors are fairly natural-looking (though a bit dull compared with those of the 3-chip camcorders), neutrals are neutral in color, fine detail is present, vertical smearing of bright spots is visible. |
TRV30
- modified
in Premiere for best match with VX2000: hue = 4, sat = 125, brite = -15, contr = -6, R = 100, G = 100, B = 98, better gaussian blur = .2 |
Motion-artifacting is improved some, shadows are
"open", light tones are losing color and detail, familiar colors are fairly natural, neutrals are close to neutral (but slight red, blue, and green tints show), but the result looks surprisingly good for a 1-chip camcorder. (Processing time can be rather lengthy, though...) |
PC100 (PC110, TRV20) |
Motion-artifacting is very obvious and annoying, contrast is
higher yet (the lightest tones are losing color and detail), familiar colors are dull and bluish but still fairly natural-looking (DWB was used - AWB can look better in daylight with this camera, unlike the others), neutrals are fairly neutral in color, fairly fine detail is present, vertical smearing of bright spots is visible. |
PC9 (PC5, TRV11, TRV17, TRV18, TRV19, TRV22) |
Motion-artifacting is obvious but not as annoying, contrast
is higher yet (the lightest tones have lost color and detail), familiar colors are fairly natural- looking, neutrals are fairly neutral in color, detail is present but noticeably softened compared with the other cameras, vertical smearing of bright spots is much less visible. Overall, the picture is smoother-looking than that of the 1-chip camcorders above, but less detailed (a good compromise image for casual-shooting). |
