Responding again, in answer to some other comments...
Two spaced omni mics can produce excellent recordings,
with a good sense of the space, no "phasing" problems,
and with a sound that is best evaluated with speakers,
not earphones...;-) Hazzard: room sounds other than the
music will also be recorded (this may be desireable, for
"ambience"-pickup reasons - and can be controlled a bit
by the placement of the mics [often in "thirds" along
the width of the orchestra, and at the front edge, or
a bit over it, if possible]). Spaced-omni mics, spaced
cardioids, crossed cardioids, mid-sides, dual shotguns,
or whatever can all be used successfully, as can multi-mics
with mixing, for nice-sounding music recordings if used
appropriately, and for desired effects/results - but it
is hard to beat spaced omnis for naturalness, and MSs for
convenience...;-)
