This may sound odd, but I would at least try using two
Azden wireless sets set to the two different frequencies
available, with the receivers fed to the VX-2000 through the
small Radio Shack dual-mono-to-stereo mini-plug adapter.
The Azden lav. mics are simple and small (as are the
transmitters) and easy to place (and this solution avoids
running wires through busy areas), and they are wide-range
and smooth, though they will need EQing for good tonal
balance... (I can hear the laughter now, but......;-).
