The head drum in Mini-DV cameras spins at very high speed,
producing the whine you hear. Some manufacturers (Sony is
one) use noise-cancelling to remove the noise from their
cameras' audio, and even their smallest cameras (with mics
near the transport mechanism) are free of this whine...
The whine is likely "normal" for your camera, but only
you can decide if it is acceptable... (you can use the Cool
Edit or Sound Forge noise-reduction modules on the audio
tracks during editing to reduce/remove the noise).
