Generally, no, but I do not use shades with three of my lenses
in order to keep them reasonably packable, and because the shades
either don't do enough to help much (as with the 18mm f3.5 and 20mm
f2.8 Nikkors, which don't really need shades anyway), or the shades actually interfer with performance (as with the PC Nikkors, which
vignette with shades when used with extreme shifts).
