The weight and length may make it uncomfortable for holding
it up-and-ready for long periods, but for the short term,
they help in getting steadier shots at a given shutter speed
(I can go to much slower shutter speeds with my 80-200 f2.8
Nikkor than I can with the very light and small 200mm f4...).
