3-chip camcorders do handle this situation better (they
handle both the brightest and darkest areas of the image
better), though, as you have noticed, by making the lights
a larger part of the image area, you can force the AE to
give less exposure, making for better overall color on
the lights. You can do the same at WA by locking the
exposure, then reducing it manually, if your
camcorder permits this.
