You can do both - copy the edit back to tape for a master,
and use the analogue outputs of the camcorder (connected to the computer, or while playing the master) to
copy the
edit to VHS.

Many cards include a FireWire cable, and the Monster is a
complete waste of money - any generic FireWire cable is
capable of passing data at a far higher rate than the camera
can handle, with more than sufficient data integrity, so
"fancy" cables here (as generally elsewhere in audio and
video...;-) are worthless...
