The video is already compressed in the camera 5:1, so you
are just transfering a digital data stream with the
FireWire card (more efficient than using an analogue card).
DV is about 12+ gigs/hour. BTW, it works best to have
a dedicated video-file drive, and extra UDMA HDs are cheap
and easy to install.

DV-AVI for PCs is the native format for digital.
This can be displayed full-screen, but it is 720x(scan
line number) in DV form (best-quality format).
