I made a small "lip" out of a section of a paper tube and
some stick-on bath-tub anti-skid rubber - shaped to just
stay out of the lens view at max wide (use the top lip
shape of those "scooped" zoom shades made for still zoom
lenses for an idea of shape). I hold it on with a rubber
band and move it forward until I just see it with the
camera moved to show the limits of the stabilized image.
I then draw it back slightly. Since most of the light
sources that cause flare come from overhead, this works
well most of the time. Alternatively, you can make a
ridid "flag" mounted on a flexible arm that mounts in
the accessory shoe...
