Within the Sony line, several imaging types are used, with
several camcorder models often using the same imaging type.
(See: www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/camcorder--comparison.htm)
At the $1500 mark, I would choose the 3-CCD TRV900 over
the TRV30/50, but at the "low end", in Mini-DV, I would
look for the least expensive camera of any model, since
the imaging types (and image appearance) will be the same
in models of various prices and feature-sets. Since the
"on-screen" image is not affected by the feature set,
the lowest-priced model is the best buy... Muddling this,
though, is the price (unknown to me) of the lowest-price
"megapixel" Sony Mini-DV camera (new models) - one of these
may show sharper images, but at the price of more
artifacting with motion, so it may still not be the "very
best value" (and, for me, the amazingly good VX2000, at
around $2350, represents the Sony Mini-DV "very best
value" -as does the TRV900, at around $1500...).
