You haven't been reading these newsgroups very long...., you missed
a knock-em-down, drag-em-out thread on filters a short ways back.

I would go with Hoya, since it has a good combination of consistently high quality, reasonable price, and good rim design - though for
unusual filter colors one may be forced to buy Tiffen and accept
their shortcomings (a tendency for the glass to cloud [cleanable],
and terrible rim design). If you are into spending money
unnecessarily, there is always the premium group (Nikkor, B & W,
Heliopan, etc.). I would recommend using all the same brand and
type of filters on your lenses if you use UV or skylight filters
as protectors if you care about lens color matching.
