We have had a terrible time trying to install the Matrox
G-400 dual-head card on three different machines with
the Raptor card, with both Win98SE and Win2K. On the
Win98 machine, we could not get preview overlay, either
hardware or software, with the Raptor; with one Win2K
(I like it too - it is STABLE! ;-) machine, it ran
well with software overlay only, would not do hardware;
with the other, we managed to get hardware overlay
running, only to discover a fatal flaw: in Win2K, the
second-level menus pop up split between the two monitor
screens (we replaced that G-400 with a Matrox G-200
AGP and a Diamond 32-meg PCI, and the client is happy).
In other machines, using two ATI 8-meg cards works
fine (and they are cheap and easy to install) for
1152x864 at 32-bit and 70-75 refresh on dual 17"
monitors) - though there is one quirk DW may find
unacceptable with these when accessing SoftXplode
transitions: the screens blink alternately after
clicking on the SX transition on the timeline until
you open the SX dialogue box... Ah, well.....;-)
BTW, Matrox just announced new drivers for the G-400.
Maybe it will work now, afterall... (it does look
good, when running, as AI says...;-).
