If you are doing straight transfers of long clips to the
computer, I see no problem with using a camcorder for
transfer (and many have those fold-out screens which are
more useful during transfers than while shooting...;-).
If you are using software that shuttles the tape a lot,
a deck may be a reasonable investment (keeping camcorder
head-wear and mechanism operation time down may be useful,
especially with an expensive camcorder...).
