In theory, the dropout rate is higher, but using only
Sony PR and EX tapes, I see a minor dropout maybe once
every few tapes, and in LP mode, the rate is only
slightly higher... Even with a minor dropout (only
one small box is "offset" in a frame with motion
for one frame only...), the footage is generally
usable... (I'm a nut about keeping the cameras away
from dust, and I blow out the tape chamber when
changing tapes with a large hand air syringe - which
is also useful for keeping WA converters "spotless").
For important work, or for footage I want to keep
for long periods, I do not use LP-mode or the thin
80-minute tapes, when possible...
