Actually, the way I suggested is fairly straight-forward,
and the timecode correlates to your timeline timescale
fairly easily...

I think you misunderstood the answer. ;-)
If you work on the timeline with V1 opened, it is
VERY easy to place to the frame exactly what you
want within the transition, and to control the
length of the transition exactly for best results
(instead of using an arbitrary duration and wondering
what is included or what it will look like...).
You may even get into multiple transition sections
to modify the rate of change of transitions, adding
keyframed filter changes to clip ends as they go
through the transitions, adding still frames to clips
to grab extra time for transitions, etc. - things that
are more obvious when working on the timeline instead
of with trimming windows...
