For the 135mm f2, there is only one choice for best quality, the
Nikon TC14A (the TC201 is OK, but not wonderful on this lens).
The 180mm f2.8 EDIF AF would definitely be superior....
For the 300mm f2.8 MF, things are better. The TC14/14B works
very well, the TC14C exceptionally well, and the TC301 also
very well (all are good wide-open, excellent by f5.6 on the
300mm f2.8 MF).
For short-lens converters, the Vivitar macro converter is
about as good as the Nikkor TC201, and the Tamron 1.4X
might be worth a look (though not for the 300mm).
