Hmmm, actually, one of the best converter-lens combinations of
the MANY I have (I have 5 converters, and lots of lenses...)
is the Nikon TC14A with the 16mm fisheye... (The close-focus
28mm f2.8 AIS also works well with the TC200 as an emergency
macro lens...) In my experience, teleconverters (the short-lens
type) work best with lenses 8mm to about 135mm, and not so well
with the somewhat longer lenses that would seem to be the
obvious choices for use with converters (the 2X's, as you
said, are generally not as good as the 1.4X's - and they are
also generally not very good with zooms, but they are useful
for small-aperture macro work to increase magnification
sharply).
Hope This Helps
