Two things - in my "anecdotal" experience, the Sony "PR" tape works just
fine in the VX-1000 (a Panasonic tape did not work in a VX-700 I had [too
many drop-outs], but this may have been due as much to "mixing" tape
brands as to the tape itself - though others report problems with non-Sony
tape in Sony gear even when it is the only tape used... And the other is
the difficulty of finding Sony tape...
