It is messy, and requires clean-up afterwards, but....
Take the glass out by unscrewing the front and rear lens sections
out of the shutter. Do not open the shutter enclosure! Open the
shutter (with T, B, or press-focus) and the aperture, and squirt a
LITTLE "pot cleaner" (potentiometer cleaner, WITHOUT lubricant,
available at audio repair or electronic supply shops) into the
opening(s) for sync. levers, etc., while turning the shutter to
spread the cleaner and work the shutter. Repeat if necessary, if
the shutter does not work properly at first. Afterward, you will
need to clean up the shutter and aperture blades (CAREFULLY!)
with repeated applications of alcohol on Q-Tips. F U N . . .
With patience, the gunky lubricants can be thinned, and the
residues removed from the blades (nothing to lose, huh?), and
it has always worked for me. Since it is unlikely to see
extremely heavy use (for me), the loss of some lubrication is
OK, and the slight change in shutter speeds is OK too...
