This is pretty much inherent in Mini-DV camcorders
when it comes to near-horizontal lines in motion.
It is worse on diagonals and near-vertical lines
in one-chippers than in most 3-chippers (though not
all - the GL-1 is particularly bad in this respect
[and the VX-1000 is particularly is good]). Cure:
stop all motion, and the stairstepping goes away.
