A pair of PSB Alphas (these are home-stereo
speakers, but also come shielded for monitoring
near picture-monitors...), slightly EQ'd, powered
by one of those neat tiny Aiwa mini-receivers popular
a few years ago (still cameras and home electronics
seem to grow, then shrink, then grow again
over the years...;-). I also use a small pair
of powered computer speakers as a lower-quality
check on the sound to make sure it will be
OK on a lesser TV sound system. Finished
work is checked on a good large playback
system (and, if I have any sense, also
on a small mono-sound TV...;-).
Sound-quality in video is important, and
with the best Mini-DV camcorders, with
a little effort the sound quality
can be quite good.
