I would consider a Nikon FG and a Nikkor 55mm or Sigma 90mm Macro
if you want to stay small and light, but want to be able to focus
from infinity to about 1/2 life size (2"x3" subject area). Either
lens will be sharper than the zoom, also, and can be made to focus
closer with the addition of an extension tube (though the Sigma
90mm comes with an excellent close-up achromat that gets you to 1:1).
