You can find frame-grabs from several Mini-DV camcorders
shot under the same dim conditions in a camcorder
comparison article on my web page under "I babble".
I chose a room with a light level too low for any
of the camcorders to handle at 1/60th second shutter
speed to see the differences in brightness and image
grain and sharpness at maximum gain. BTW, the GL-1
does not have slow shutter speeds - some others do,
and 1/15th second shutter speed gives two-stops
better light handling ability with acceptable image
characteristics for many purposes (there is a moderate
"intermittance" with motion, somewhat greater
"stair-stepping", and somewhat lower sharpness due to
the dropping of alternate scan lines when using speeds
below 1/60th [NTSC], but the improvement in color
quality with lowered gain, and the ability to shoot
in VERY low light levels can be worth the trade-off).
