Nikon used to make (still does?) the inexpensive ES-1 slide duplicator
(a pair of sliding tubes for variable extension with a 52mm thread on
one end [use a 37mm to 52mm step-up ring to adapt it], and a slide-holder
and opal plastic on the other). If the camera will not focus on the slide, adding a Nikkor 4T achromat (good close-up lens) between the step-up
ring and the duplicator should work. I have used this rig successfully
on the Canon Hi-8's with 37mm front threads, though quality is not as
good as any decent conventional scan, alas... (using the Snappy).
Hope This Helps
