From the Canopus web site - but it works only with the
Canopus codec, which works only with the Canopus cards...

Yes, there is...
Best to start with simple proportional speed changes,
like 1/2X, 1/3X, etc.. When you have rendered and
saved the slowed clip as a file, place it on the
timeline and place a copy on an effects track above
it, displaced one frame, with transparency set at 50%.
If the result is not sharp enough, a slight sharpening
of the rendered and saved clip should suffice...
BTW, you can also capture footage from the camera
while it is set in "slow mo" play mode, and work
on this footage...
