Yes - disappointing...
The 24 wasn't too bad, given the very high magnification.
They are awkward to use without auto diaphragm, and a
double-cable rig is too slow to catch the momentary sharpness
if hand-holding with flash. The CRT 55mm f1.2 is excellent reversed
at 5X magnification, but most I wouldn't bother with - especially as
you approach normal FL's, since the performance/magnification isn't
much different from the normal (and much easier to use) orientation.
BTW, the 28PC might be a good candidate for macro work on larger format,
since it wouldn't require much extension to cover even 4x5... (though I
seem to remember trying it on 4x5 with the 35 PC and being disappointed...
[though maybe I didn't reverse the lens - can't remember {though seems
like I would have, since it is easier to glue a filter rim onto a board
than to attach a bayonette...}]).
