If you capture in Mini-DV format (DV-AVI), make no changes
in the footage other than cuts and rearranging clip order,
there should be virtually no render time when outputting
back to the camcorder to make a master, and only little more
than HD time for saving the file as a new DV-AVI. If you
apply filters, transitions, etc., the render time will go
up, but to nothing like the 1:30 ratios you are getting
(unless you are using a G-4 and FPC...;-), ;-), ;-).
If you are converting CODECs, the processing time can be
quite long... Highest quality: capture in AVI (which is
what is already on the Mini-DV tape), edit in AVI, and
export in AVI (and/or make an AVI file of the edited
video, then convert it to the desired CODEC form, if
desired).
