I don't think there is a lot you can do simply to
reduce echo without seriously affecting what you want
to retain... If the echo sounds different in frequency
balance from the original sound source, frequency
filtering (EQ, notching) can help, as possibly can
careful expansion/compression, trying to reduce the
level of the offending material without reducing much
the level of the louder material. You can also
manually modify local sound levels using the "rubber
band" controls in a video editor that has them (I
pull brief bits of speech out of "muck" by doing this,
combined with multiple passes of noise-reduction
[cool edit has a very good noise-reduction module]
using different "noise profiles", and mixing and EQing
track copies to retain as much intelligibility as I
can without losing too much voice "natural sound"...).
All this may take more experience than you have - but
noise-reduction and EQing are good places to start
(and manual "gain riding", if you have the patience,
can do wonders...).
