Hi--
Red "blooming" is a common problem in video. It is mentioned
in the review at www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/sony_dcr-vx2000.htm, as I recall, and
it appears at www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/vid_pict_characts.htm (I used the VX2000
as the example, though others are worse, since the VX2000 has so
few other faults - click on the "key" after the rest of the page
has loaded to see what shot what in the examples...). Red is hard
show with good detail and sharp edges, and some colors in DV-NTSC
also do not have sharp edges against some other colors. Adding a
slight green bias in the hue control and a bit of under-exposure
(and shooting against non-contrasting colors)is about the only
solution. The VX1000 and EZ30U were good in this respect, but
neither could show pure red...
Dear David, thank you again for the great information on your site. I
purchased a VX2000 and am very pleased with it. My wife and I used it on
a trip to Austria and Switzerland -- the quality of the video is great.
One problem I noticed was a slightly out of focus or blurry appearance
of large areas of red flowers. Back home I achieved a slightly better
result by reducing the exposure a bit. Could this be something wrong
with the camera? I've tried manual focus, manual adjustments, making
sure the lens is clean, etc. Please respond to bourgeoispeanut@yahoo.com
Thanks
