This is what I recommend... You do want stereo
for the ambience recording, to provide "space";
the voice can be mono. I bought several Aiwa
Mini-Disk recorders on Sears close-outs/returns
sales for about $130 each - these appear not to
have AGC at all (or I have not found the "AGC-on"
button...;-). These have volume controls with
displays for level, and work well with the Sony
908c stereo omni mics.
