Hey, folks, let's remember we are dealing with a film that is basically
ASA 640 to 800 at normal contrast. Pushing film is basically modifying contrast upward, not magically producing higher speed (which is determined by the shadow information recorded), so that the mid, and especially the high values, are denser on the negative so that when the film is underexposed, there is SOMETHING to print - even if it is only
a few of the higher tones. (At "6400" the grain is enormous, and any
semblence of sharpness [or any other "good" negative quality] is gone!)
With careful development, T-Max 3200 can be exposed around 2000 ASA
with considerable quality loss, but with enough remaining to produce
acceptably normal images. Using any speed above that results in images that may be appealing, but do not adhere to conventional standards of
quality (to understate egregiously!), IM(NS)HO.
Hope this helps.
