I never tried the hood for this lens, but I gather it may be large enough
to help - but I don't know. A well-placed hand is often better with
some wide-angles when a shade is needed... It is probably not a bad
idea to have the hood...

(About $55 for Nikkor from B&H...) - maybe, since the zoom would tend
to vignette, and the Nikkor rims are thinner than others (Hoya is about
1/3rd thicker, Tiffen much thicker - I would avoid Tiffen).

I do not use polarizers, especially on wide-angle lenses (slows the lens
too much, not needed for shooting in good-looking light, looks artificial,
and is very uneven with wides), and never stack filters without very strong reason... If you must use a pol. on a wide, Nikkor (and some others) have
glass larger than the mount to avoid vignetting, but are very expensive.
