I have used a linear-type without problems, but in
theory, a circular-type may offer fewer problems
with AF interference. Save money, and buy Hoya
filters - they are good-quality, inexpensive, and
more than good enough for camcorder use (or even
critical still-camera use). (The Nikkor polarizer,
BTW, requires an empty filter ring between the
camera front threads and the back of the polarizer
or there is not enough clearance for the large front
part to turn freely - but the Nikkor has the advantage
of slot-limited travel, making it easier to screw
on/off the lens].)
