The N90, like other recent Nikons, has a metal under-structure,
with a (o.k., "yucky") plastic skin, which does not feel as firm
as the metal-clad bodies of yore. However! I recently bought a metal replacement bottom for an FE-2 and it arrived bent. It took little effort to remove the curves and shallow dents with my fingers (!).
Try that with a plastic camera bottom (which would not have been
bent in the first place)!
