Plastic pros:
- neater image edges and corners
- holds the slide loosely, so it can be repositioned slightly, if desired
- less likely to buckle if bent
- easier to remove film from the mount without damage
Plastic cons:
- holds the film not as flat as cardboard
- not as easy to make permanent notes on the mount
