It is much easier to visualize this with track 1
fully open, with the clips alternating on tracks
1A and 1B, overlapped by the amount of time/image
you want the transition to affect, and with the
transition placed so that it occupies the space
on the timeline between the overlapped clip ends.
Preview the transition by either scrubBing it while
holding down the "Alt" key, by opening the transition
dialogue box (by double-clicking on it), selecting
"view actual material" and moving the slider in the
left-side box, and/or by placing the yellow "work
area bar" over it and hitting the "Enter" key to
render the transition (it will play in the preview
window when rendering is complete).
