It cannot be the lens - if the viewing image is not centered compared with
the film (FILM, not print or mounted slide, which could have printing/mounting
problems - check the negatives or unmounted slides...), it is a body problem
(most likely a mirror misalignment if serious - which should also show up
as a viewfinder image that shows a different focus distance for the same
subject placed first at one edge of the finder, then the other). BTW, most
viewfinders do not show the whole film image area, and many may also
be slightly off-center, and slightly rotated compared with the film image.

If you care at all about good wide-aperture sharpness, a 28-200mm is
probably not a good buy. If you want a wide-range zoom for snapshots,
it may be adequate, or even pretty good well stopped down.

If it is Nikon-TTL compatible, it should work fine...
