DO NOT put an unmodified non-AI lens on most newer Nikons (the current
F3 and F4 allow the body AI tab to be raised out of the way before putting
the lens on the camera [the DOF preview button is held in during M and A
exposures] - and some older bodies also allow this [FE, FM, F2A/AS]).
You may break off the small plastic body AI tab, requiring a repair...
BTW, normally the lens aperture remains open when the lens is mounted
on the camera, but when the aperture ring is moved, a simulated aperture
is used for indication and metering (the diaphragm closes to the selected
aperture during exposure, and reopens for bright viewing). Modification is
done for $30 by jtwhite@aol.com
Hope This Helps
