No, it isn't you...;-)
Most "buy out" music for video I've heard is as
you describe (I stopped buying it). There are some
"needle down" (you pay per use/time) sellers with
good stuff, but much of what actually gets used in
videos is more like what you complain of than good.
It takes real money to "buy" real talent for video
music, unless you know some excellent (and willing,
for cheaps) musicians (I do, but I have not yet
asked them for favors...;-). I try to do without
music as much as possible in videos, using "ambient
sounds" instead, and fill in with the occassional
MIDI diddlies I'm capable of occassionally coming up
with...;-)
