Several brands of "flat screen" tube-type monitors use
the Sony tubes (very sharp, but with two horizontal black
lines in the image [not often a problem] from the support
wires - and Sony anti-reflection coatings are excellent),
though the Phillips does not appear to use the Sony tube
(and the surface is more reflective); often the 17s are a
bit better than similar 19s; best to look at real samples,
if possible (and you can check refresh rates and other
specs on the mfgr's web sites...); check, if possible,
on model service histories (these vary, and do not predict
service life of individual samples, but may be useful in
selection...); I also prefer having hardware 3-color
adjustment, complete distortion-removal controls, and
a rotation control available...
