For me, I had long used Sony type-I tape in a TRV9
I used as a deck. Immediately after switching to
Sony type-II, I had many dropouts. After using a
Sony cleaning tape as recommended, the problem
continued, and the drum had an irregular hazy
coating on it that was quite visible. After head/
transport replacement, all has been fine, and mixing
the old and new tapes has not produced the same
results (though it appears the "fleeting - not there
when you replay" type of dropouts do increase
somewhat when mixing the old and new Sony types...).
Could all be coincidence, but......;-)
