Uh, this is mini-*DV* - the signal on the tape is a digital
one, and therefore should show none of the differences
suggested above (except price...! ;-). Only the Sony tape
comes with [also available without...] the chip. From
what I gather, about any mini-DV tape is OK, so long as
you do not mix Sony with other brands under some conditions...
