Not any better than the built-in mic, unless you do as Andrew
suggests and get it much closer than the camera position.
I've had good luck with the Sennheiser MKE-300
singly or in pairs (and with the unfortunately discontinued
small Sony ECM-Z157). As short shotguns, they are more
directional, and if the "audience is fairly quiet, the
speaker pickup can be very good.
