The 908c is the version usually added to camcorders, but it
does little more than duplicate the function of the built-in
camcorder mic, assuming that is one of the better ones. The
built-in mic, if good, should be sufficient for recording most
ambient sound and sound effects. If the dynamic range is
too great, you may need a mic with a higher than average
peak level acceptance, and you may need to combine it with
a mic pad (loud sounds can overload a mic, and/or the input
amplification stage...). If you cannot disable the
camcorder's AGC, the pad may also be necessary with
loud sounds to reduce the compression applied by the AGC...
