Range of possibilities...
The FE-2 (and 8008...) show you the indicated exposure
related to a range of possible exposures, not just
"correct". This is useful for seeing where you start
relative to where you want to go with the exposure,
and also for making "in viewfinder" corrections for
snow, skin, foliage, "coal-bin", etc. meter readings.
With the FE-2 (since it is a continuous analogue
system), very subtle corrections can be made very
easily and quickly in manual exposure mode.
(Even so, I get very nearly 100% correct slide
exposures with the "uninformative" F3 meter...;-)
