There are two issues: tone and color ---
If the color is not very saturated (pure), the
color can be ignored when metering (and incident,
or compensated reflected [or with a range of tones
metered, simple reflected] metering can be done.
Due to inaccuracies in meter cell color response,
saturated colors will cause (tone) metering error.
With Nikon TTL meters, I find pure yellow (or when
using a deep yellow filter) requires about 1/2 stop
additional exposure, orange about 1 stop, red
about 1 1/2 stops.
