The megapixel stills from 1-CCD video cameras tend to be
somewhat noisy in resolutions above 640x480, so they are
of questionable value... As for motion-video, megapixel
CCDs do appear to improve sharpness, but at the price of
increased picture "spurious activity" with motion, making
megapixel video images not necessarily superior. In
addition, there is the loss in low light range. I like my
megapixel TRV30 camcorder for some things, but I prefer
using my PC9 for many others - and I consider it more
"universal" than my TRV30, though less so than my 3-CCD
cameras (which produce higher-quality images under an
even wider range of shooting conditions...). Within the
category of 1-CCD camcorders, there are trade-offs, and
"megapixel" is not necessarily "better"...
