(Not to mention bigger tripod-carrying muscles....;-) This is a neat idea
that is adaptable for hand-holding - put a 1/4 - 20 bolt through the bar
and into the tripod socket on the bottom of the camera (a thin pad on
top the bar for protection, a large washer under the head of the bolt,
and care [so as not to extend the bolt too far into the tripod socket]
might be a good idea), and you wind up with a very heavy, but
easier-to-hand-hold-steady, camera.....
