Hi--
>I am a professional photographer that is a bit frustrated with the sharpness
>of my lenses (mostly Nikkor)
Sharpness of images is partly due to lens quality...
Other factors focus accuracy (AF, and the finders
of most AF cameras when used for MF, and especially
AF "focus indicators" are not accurate enough to
get the best out of lenses...); steadiness during
exposure; optimum f-stop; good lab services.
Defective lens samples do exist... A cheap 10X
magnifier can do wonders for checking lenses and
for improving technique.

I think the f2 is better around f4-5.6, the f1.4 may
be better (though not wonderful) around f1.4-2.8 or so.
The 28mm f4 PC is better yet.
>MAY I ASK YOU WHAT LENSES YOU ARE IMPRESSED WITH?!!!
Look at "SLE(MN)" on my web page - anything 4.8 or
higher is pretty good! Short list 16 f3.5, 28 f4PC,
35 f2.8 PC latest, 55 f2.8, any 85, 180 f2.8 AF,
any of the non-zoom EDIF lenses except the 300mm f4.5.
>Can you comment on Contax lenses and Canon lenses.
No - but I have not liked the Canon lenses I've seen
photos taken with, except maybe the 123 f2 (too many
obvious defects).
>Do you suggest any other excellent test sites. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
"Steve Bloch"
No - I don't like "objective" lens tests - too many
times the results don't match "use" tests.
